Info Post

If you’re like me, you put things down and then don’t remember where you put them.  While I’m working sometimes I have to search my work area for a scissor or pencil or some such thing.  With this easy pincushion worn right on your hand, there is no losing it while you work.  And best of all it’s recycled.  The tops from orange juice or iced tea are the perfect size for this pincushion!

You will need:

Plastic top from a wide mouth orange juice or iced tea container

Piece of felt in desired color (I used tie dye)

Compass with pencil

Scissors

½” wide elastic (to fit around wrist)

Glue gun and glue sticks

Needle and thread

Small amount of poly-fill

Craft knife

Needle nosed pliers

Flat head screwdriver

1)   Place the top down and trace onto a piece of felt.  Cut out making sure the felt fits neatly around the top.  Measure about ½” slit in the inside of the top and use the craft knife to cut it.  Make another slit on the opposite side. Push the flat head screwdriver in each slit to widen a bit.

2)    Wrap the piece of elastic around your wrist and cut to that length.    Spread some hot glue on the top of the piece and attach the circle of felt you cut out.  Make sure you glue the edges securely.  Use the craft knife to make a slit in the felt corresponding to the slits you cut in the top.

3)   Use the flat head screwdriver to push the elastic through the slits on both sides and glue to the inside with the hot glue gun.

4)   Use the compass to cut a 3” diameter circle from the felt.  Thread a needle with some thread and baste around the edge pulling tight.  When you have basted the thread all around the circle, pull the thread tight and fill with some poly-fill. Sew it closed.

5)   Spread some hot glue where you sewed the felt closed and attach to the inside of the top.
